SWEET SHIVERS:
ICED CHOCOLATE IS THE ANTIDOTE FOR HOT NEW YORK SUMMER DAYS.

For chocolate lover Kevin Strouse, the icy treat is preferable to wine or beer after a long day. When he stops off for a cold drink in the evening on his way home from work, the investment banker ducks into Chocolate Bar and orders an iced chocolate.

“I love hot chocolate, but I want something cold and refreshing in the summer,” says the Manhattan resident, waiting for his take out cup of iced chocolate and an oversize cookie to go with it. “My girlfriend is the one that got me started on this. It’s very cooling.”

A number of chocolate specialty stores and cafes in the city make superior iced chocolates. Chocolate Bar’s version is thick, wickedly rich in texture and can be customized with peppermint, caramel, raspberry and hazelnut. Get your chocolate fix by pairing one with a chocolate-covered Oreo or caramel nougat bar. $4..25, large, $4.75. CHOCOLATE BAR, 48 Eighth Ave. near Horatio Street. (212)366-1541.
