HONESTLY, THE HOT CHOCOLATE AT CHOCOLATE BAR IS DEFINITELY
ONE OF THE CONTENDERS FOR THE BEST HOT CHOCOLATE IN NYC!!

I am an unabashed chocolate lover (see my write-up of the NY Chocolate Show 2012) and I am picky about the hot chocolate that I drink (as you would know from my hot chocolate experiences at Francois Payard Bakery and at MarieBelle in SoHo). As one of my friends said, “Once you have good hot chocolate, it’s tough to have any hot chocolate!”
I am thrilled to share my delightful chocolate experience at Chocolate Bar (a hidden gem) in the West Village. Chocolate Bar is a small cafe that serves chocolate goods (truffles, drinks, and bars), coffee, baked goods and ice creams / gelatos. There are seats for about 8 – 10 guests, so make sure you do not go as a group, you will likely not find space for all to sit or hang out.
I had their hot chocolate and became their fan instantly. The hot chocolate is smooth and creamy with the perfect bittersweet balance (made from Callebaut chocolate chips – fine Belgian chocolate, not sure if all their chocolate is Fair Trade, but at least some of it is). Chocolate Bar’s hot chocolate is better than the hot chocolate at Godiva and comparable to the hot chocolates at Jacques Torres and at L.A. Burdick. The hot chocolate at MarieBelle and City Bakery are in a different league (in my mind for sure) – so no comparisons with Chocolate Bar. Honestly, the hot chocolate at Chocolate Bar is definitely one of the contenders for the best hot chocolate in NYC!!
Chocolate Bar NYC was founded by
Alison Nelson who has won several awards in Gourmet News andGourmand among others. I wish there were more locations of Chocolate Bar in NYC – the is a location in New Jersey and several international locations in the Middle East.
What is your hot chocolate story? Where have you had the best hot chocolate?
Meanwhile, here is some eye candy for the weekend:
